Monday, May 3, 2010 at 12:03AM I’m sitting here on a Sunday night, the weekend is coming to a close, and I’m starting to feel the stress of finals, which are in a week for me. As college students one of the constants in our lives is stress, which can really take a toll on us; so I’ve compiled a list of a few tips that have helped me to deal with the constant stress we deal with, and I hope that they help you guys out as you go through finals in these next few weeks.
Mental
One of the most important things to remember is that the way we look at and think about things has a major effect on how we make decisions and respond to various events in our lives. It is important to remember to always stay positive, and to motivate yourself.
Physical
In order for our brains to function properly you must exercise your body. Try to get at least 30 minutes of light exercise such as walking every day. Try to keep the blood flowing through your body, exercise helps your body feel better which in turn makes your mind function better and feel better.
Organization
Stay organized; make a to-do list or an agenda every night for the next day. Write down everything you have to do, writing a task down reinforces it and there is something about crossing things off a list. Time management is an important skill to have as a student, and effective time management can relieve a ton of stress from your mind.
Rest and Relaxation
It is very important to get a consistent and proper amount of sleep; sleep deprivation slows down our minds, and makes us feel cruddy all day. It is really important to remember to get rest. You should also take time out of your day for yourself, meditate, try yoga, stretching, anything, that doesn’t involve studying or school related activities.
Say NO
One thing that some of us forget to do is say no, sometime you have to stop yourself from going to see that movie, or going to that party. It is up to you to learn how to say no, but a good start would be organizing your priorities so that it becomes easier for you to say no.
Split it up
Take those huge daunting tasks and break them into manageable task, take that huge paper and split it by pages, try to finish a page every 45 minutes. If you can break a huge task into smaller pieces you can manage it and control it.
Good luck to all of you with your finals, and let us know in the comments if you have any more stress relief tips.

I think the most important is organization. If you're organized, you are able to keep on task and keep working. You know what you're doing and work gets done much faster. To Do lists are the reason why I'm still alive!
Physical activity doesn't work too much for me because I always get sore and tired and then end up sleeping all day. It's probably because I don't do light exercise but still!
I think saying no is huge. I learned to say no to commitments early in the year and then add them after I knew what I could handle with my schedule.
